The event was marked by the presence of one of Ghana’s most beloved musical talents, Kofi Kinaata. Kinaata’s performance captivated the audience, blending traditional Ghanaian sounds with modern Afrobeat rhythms. His performance brought joy, nostalgia, and pride to the hearts of those in attendance, many of whom had travelled from various parts of Scotland to take part in the occasion.
Beyond the electrifying music, the gathering was designed to foster connections among Ghanaians and Africans living in Scotland, while also providing an opportunity for non-Africans to experience and enjoy the rich culture of Ghana. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie as attendees enjoyed quality music from Kinaata.
The collaboration between Overseas Students House and UWS was integral in making this event a success. It highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting its international student community, especially those from Africa, by creating a platform where they could celebrate their heritage and feel a sense of belonging.
For many of the attendees, this was more than just an event—it was a chance to reconnect with their roots, form meaningful relationships, and share their culture with others. The event undoubtedly achieved its goal of making the Ghanaian and African communities in Scotland feel at home.
As the day drew to a close, the message was clear: no matter how far one may be from home, there is always an opportunity to come together, celebrate, and find a piece of home within the community. This event will be remembered as a testament to the strength and vibrancy of the Ghanaian and African diaspora in Scotland.
